Thermometer
To Measure Fluid Temperature for Most Gases, Steam & Liquids
Thermowells and temperature sensing assemblies play a critical role in accurate temperature measurement—particularly in differential pressure (DP) flow applications where temperature directly influences fluid density and viscosity. Reliable temperature data is essential for precise mass flow calculations in gases, steam, and liquids.
A standard temperature measurement assembly includes a sensing element (RTD or thermocouple) housed inside a protective thermowell that extends into the process fluid. The sensing element generates a signal that is transmitted to a temperature transmitter or integrated into a multivariable DP flow transmitter for real-time compensation.
Thermowells enable safe, long-term, and serviceable temperature monitoring by isolating the sensing element from the process stream while allowing efficient heat transfer for accurate readings.

PFS is a contributor to various international standards committees, fully supporting our staff’s memberships to these commissions.
Individual products follow relevant industry regulations, including requirements specific to the oil and gas, water/wastewater, and power generation industries.
PFS maintains the following certifications, standards & compliances:

Thermowells protect temperature sensors in municipal and industrial water systems, ensuring accurate monitoring of process temperatures in filtration, chemical dosing, aeration basins, distribution lines, and high-corrosion environments. They allow sensor removal without shutting down critical operations.

Across chemical processing, manufacturing, pulp & paper, and food & beverage facilities, thermowells enable safe, reliable temperature measurement for process fluids, CIP systems, batch operations, heat exchangers, and jacketed vessels. Their durability makes them well-suited for corrosive, abrasive, or high-velocity conditions.

Power generation facilities depend on thermowells to safeguard RTDs and thermocouples in high-temperature and high-pressure applications such as steam lines, boilers, condensate systems, turbine monitoring, and cooling circuits. Proper thermowell design ensures fast response times while maintaining mechanical integrity.

Thermowells are widely used across upstream, midstream, and downstream operations to protect temperature elements exposed to harsh fluids, vibration, and extreme temperatures. Typical uses include pipeline temperature monitoring, separators, heaters, storage tanks, and refinery process units.

With more than 40 years of experience, Primary Flow Signal delivers dependable thermowells and temperature assemblies built for mission-critical process environments. Our components are widely used in power generation, water and wastewater treatment, refining, chemical processing, and other industries that demand rugged, repeatable temperature monitoring.
Temperature requirements vary widely, so each PFS thermowell is designed with the correct materials, insertion length, and mechanical strength for the job. We ensure proper compatibility with RTDs and thermocouples, provide guidance on wake frequency and immersion depth, and support customers through selection, installation, and ongoing operation.
PFS thermowells are manufactured within an ISO 9001 quality system, with options to meet ASME, PED, CRN, and additional regional or industry-specific requirements. Full material traceability, testing options, and documentation packages can be provided to satisfy project and regulatory specifications.
