ASME Long Radius Flow Nozzle for High-Velocity, High-Pressure Flow Measurement

The ASME long radius flow nozzle from PFS is designed for reliable differential pressure flow measurement in liquids, gases, and steam, particularly in high-velocity and erosive services. Unlike sharp-edged orifice plates, the long radius nozzle does not rely on a thin edge to maintain performance, reducing wear over time and helping preserve long-term measurement accuracy.

Flow nozzles are capable of measuring significantly higher flow rates than an equivalent orifice plate at the same differential pressure, often up to twice the capacity. Available in mechanically clamped or permanently welded configurations, the long radius nozzle provides installation flexibility while maintaining dependable performance in demanding industrial environments.

Engineered in accordance with recognized industry standards, this nozzle is well-suited for applications involving high-pressure, high-temperature, and high-Reynolds number flow conditions.

Key Benefits & Features:

Long Radius Nozzle Whole
  • Durable, Wear-Resistant Design: No moving parts and no sharp edges, reducing wear and helping maintain accuracy over long service life with minimal maintenance
  • High-Velocity Capability: Well-suited for high-speed flow conditions in steam, gas, and liquid applications.
  • Handles Erosive Media: Lower susceptibility to erosion compared to sharp-edged devices.
  • High Pressure and Temperature Performance: Widely used in steam and water systems operating under demanding conditions.
  • Repeatable Measurement: Repeatability of ±0.1% supports stable and consistent flow data.
  • Flexible Installation Options: Mounts in any position and is available clamped between flanges or welded directly into the pipeline.
  • Wide Turndown Capability: Turndown ratios of 10:1, 20:1, 50:1 or greater, well depending on instrumentation and design.

The ASME long radius flow nozzle is commonly used in power generation and steam systems, hydrocarbon and chemical processing, oil production and refining, water treatment and distribution, and other high-velocity industrial processes where durability and reliable performance are critical.

Applications

Power Generation & Steam Systems

ASME long radius flow nozzles are widely used in power plants to measure high-pressure, high-temperature steam and water flows. Their durable design and resistance to wear make them well-suited for boiler feedwater, turbine steam, and other critical energy production services.

Oil Production & Refining

In upstream and refining operations, long radius flow nozzles provide reliable measurement of hydrocarbons, liquids, and gases under high-velocity and erosive conditions. Their ability to handle demanding pressure and temperature environments supports dependable process control and reporting.

Water Treatment & Distribution

Long radius flow nozzles are used in water treatment and distribution systems where clean liquids and high-flow conditions require stable, repeatable measurement. Their robust construction supports long service life in municipal and industrial utility systems.

High-Velocity Industrial Processes

Across industrial facilities, long radius flow nozzles are applied in services involving high flow rates, steam, and erosive media. Their capacity to measure higher flow rates than comparable orifice plates makes them a practical choice for demanding process applications.
